Why on earth isn't election day also a holiday? Or why don't we match up our election days with an existing holiday?
@michael My guess? Because it makes it easier to exclude those on the lower end of the economic scale. Those jobs are harder to step away from for an hour in the middle of the day to go vote. People who can't afford to are being asked to take a pay cut to exercise their rights. Sometimes they can't afford to, and the more affluent get greater representation, even if it's just a little bit.
